WOOF: Sawyer Racanelli Talks about Decision to be a Husky

The Huskies just added a new name to the 2020 commit list, and that’s Hockinson High School (Brush Prairie, WA) receiver, Sawyer Racanelli.

Racanelli called Chris Petersen on Tuesday night and gave the head coach his pledge, but waited to release it until he had a proper edit for Twitter.

“Washington has been my dream school since I was a little kid”, Racanelli told Realdawg.com this week, “It just never really hit me until now that it has become reality.”

Racanelli was thought to be an in-state “sleeper”, but word started getting out during this past spring and he wound up turning down 10 offers; Washington State, UCLA, Michigan, and more.

In fact, he just took an official trip to UCLA over the weekend, but it wound up cementing what he already knew: There’s no place like home.

“I was really comfortable with the coaches and it’s close to home”, he explained, “I want my family to be able to watch and I’m glad they will be able to.”

Racanelli added that it’s his plan to help UW shoot for a national title and, “Im goign to try and help recruit other really good players just to see where this takes us.”

On the field, Racanelli is exceptionally good at yards-after-catch and he is a very physical receiver. He will go across the middle without flinching and welcomes the contact. He can easily transition between slot and wideout, depending on the play. He high-points the ball and is very advanced in his route-running.

At 6-3, 205 he has the physical tools and skillset to make an impact at the next level, and that’s what he has set his sights on. He’s also played on a team that goes uptempo and puts a lot of emphasis on the RPO — so he could plugged right into Washington’s offense with ease.

Racanelli said he feels very good about his relationship with Junior Adams, “We’ve stayed in contact a lot and just stayed in touch throughout the process”, he said.

Racanelli joins three other public Husky commits; QB Ethan Garbers, TE Mark Redman, and OL Gaard Memmelaar.
