Arizona DB talks about the Offer he’s been “Waiting for”

Realdawg.com spoke with Saguaro (AZ) high school defensive back, Jacobe Covington tonight following an offer he just received from Jimmy Lake and the Huskies.

“He’s been talking to me since last year”, Covington said of Lake, “I was so excited about this (offer) I almost teared up — this is the one I was waiting for.”

Obviously, Washington’s draw in defensive back recruiting is, and continues to be pretty powerful. And Saguaro High School is no stranger to Husky recruiting.

Byron Murphy is a testament to the attraction now that these desert DB’s have to Washington.

“They have a history of getting DB’s to the next level”, Covington said, “I’ve met Byron Murphy twice.”

He has also been in contact with Dominique Hampton, who’s also from Arizona and currently on the Husky roster. “I was texting with him not too long ago”, Covington said, “I was just asking him about Washington and what’s it’s like there.”

Covington will find this out for himself when he takes a trip to Seattle, “I’m definitely going to get up there”, he said, adding that he and his mother will sit down and figure out a good time and date to get to the Emerald City and see the UW up close.

Right now, Washington likes Covington at safety and nickel — he’s a long athlete (6-1, 195) and he’s very physical and athletic. Covington has great hips and coverage skills – he can play both positions in the secondary but he’s a thumper who hits hard and loves contact. Just the kind of guy that Lake and Will Harris like in their arsenal.

Covington is also a very smart player who does a solid job at reading offenses.

Washington’s eye on defensive backs is second to none; kids play early and competition is sick, but these kids who get these early offers are definitely special athletes.

“I want to narrow things down soon”, Covington said, “Washington is going to be for sure in my top five.”

Aside from Washington, Covington holds 18 offers and said he’s totally open to leaving his homestate to attend college.
