Newly Offered Utah LB Sets up Official Visit, talks Offer

The Huskies got busy with trying to finish up their inside linebacker recruiting this week, offering Sandy, UT (Alta) 3-star prospect, MJ Tafisi.

With Washington needing inside backers after graduation this year, they need a physical presence — and Tafisi is the real deal.

“Growing up, I always knew I may not be the fastest guy or the strongest guy”, Tafisi said. But he’s being humble because he is strong and he is fast.

At 6-1, 225 Tafisi is a physical and aggressive guy in the middle, and with his size  he could come in, possibly add five or ten pounds and be ready to play early.

The biggest strength, however, is that Tafisi is just extremely instinctual and smart, “I’m a reader”, he said, “I study film and watch offenses.”

On film, Tafisi is always around the ball and near the play — he gets good angles and hits hard. He led the state in tackles this year in Utah.

Washington was wise to get in the door right now; they’ve studied his film, watched his progress, and made that offer yesterday.

“I’m excited”, he said, “That’s a really big offer”.

Tafisi will be heading to Seattle on December 8th through 10th for his official visit, and plans to sign on December 20th. With double-digit offers, he had listed his Top 5 as:

Utah
Cal
Oregon
WSU
Washington

In no order. The other schools (outside of Washington) have been on Tafisi for quite some time, but what’s intriguing is that he has only one visit set up right now — and that’s to Washington.

Why Washington?

“Their defense”, Tafisi said, “I have just gotten to know their coaches and I already feel comfortable and open with them.”

Talking to Tafisi, the old saying “walk softly and carry a big stick” comes to mind — he’s kind of quiet, but when he hits the football field, he carries a huge stick — and hits like a mac truck.
